This is a first Chevy Stevens read for me and it won’t be my last. I found her writing original and loved the different points of view and switches from past to present entailed in the story. WARNING: Spoilers throughout!

Eleven years ago, Lindsey Nash escaped into the night with her young daughter and left an abusive relationship. Her ex-husband, Andrew, was sent to jail and Lindsey started over with a new life.

Now, Lindsey is older and wiser, with her own business and a teenage daughter who needs her more than ever. When Andrew is finally released from prison, Lindsey believes she has cut all ties and left the past behind her. But she gets the sense that someone is watching her, tracking her every move. Her new boyfriend is threatened. Her home is invaded, and her daughter is shadowed. Lindsey is convinced it’s her ex-husband, even though he claims he’s a different person. But has he really changed? Is the one who wants her dead closer to home than she thought? 

My Favorite Character
I like the villain in the story. Andrew Nash is without a doubt, a very damaged person not to mention an abusive husband but really just madly in love and eager to be apart of his kids life. Maybe prison did change him for the better, but we will never know because (sigh) he gets caught in the crossfire trying to protect the very people he drove away with his own violent temper.

Setting
I look forward to a rich setting and ‘Never Let you go’ delivers for the most part. Many scenes describe the rainy weather reminiscent of beautiful British Columbia -where Chevy herself lives. The majority of the book takes place in Lions Lake and Dogwood Bay which are fictitious places as outlined in an Author’s Note at the beginning of the novel. All other places such as Vancouver Island are real.

The Ending
I have to say I knew all along it had to be either Marcus or Jared -they were both missing a few screws as far as I’m concerned. Marcus; no-ones that perfect and Jared; the scene of him coming out of the backyard to relieve himself, set alarms off inside my head. Wish there was more of bang or a ‘scratching my head’ type of moment but the adrenaline of anticipation I felt leading up to this semi-predicable ending still made it worth my read.

In a Nutshell
I couldn’t put the book down and read it cover to cover within a week. Before you comment; “that’s a long stretch for a book read (yea, I know we are in the midst of a global pandemic quarantine and have all the time in the world…), but I’m homeschooling my daughters as a single parent and working full time from home -desperately salvaging ad campaign cancellations as well….but I’ll save this rant for my Twitter feed.
